About Canton, Georgia
Canton is the county seat of Cherokee County, and just 30 minutes north of downtown Atlanta with nearly 60% of its residents being commuters. Easily accessible from I-575 Canton is a wonderful taste of a serine township and offers a nice buffer from the city life of Atlanta just minutes down the road.
Originally called Etowah established in 1833, Canton was renamed in 1834 and today Farming, particularly poultry remains its leading industry.
Today, while it's attracting new industry and residents, Canton is re-investing in its downtown with a program called "Streetscapes". This restoration work brings with it a lovely historic look including a newly designed theatre on main street.
To see the growing interest in Canton for new residents, one only need look at the 2010 census showing the city had a population of 22,958, which was way up (nearly 200%) from 7,709 residents in the 2000 census.
Next to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and sitting on the Etowah River, Canton is a wonderful city to call home.
